Who we are

RecentBrief is operated from India and offered at https://recentbrief.com. For privacy questions, email hello@recentbrief.com.

We do not sell your personal information. We use it to run the service, take payment, send the editions you asked for, and keep the product secure.

Information we collect

Account. When you continue with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image, and we store a matching user record. We do not run email-and-password signup.

Preferences. Topics, custom interests, language, voice, briefing length, schedule, timezone, and pause state. Onboarding choices may sit in your browser (localStorage) until you create an account.

Briefings. The written edition, spoken script, source headlines and URLs, generation status, and optional cached audio for replay. Play and open counts are stored on that briefing.

Payments. Plan, billing cycle, generation minutes used, top-up lots, and Razorpay order and payment identifiers. We do not store your full card number; Razorpay processes the charge.

Email events. If we send mail through Resend or Brevo, those providers may tell us whether a message bounced or was marked as spam.

Technical. IP address is used briefly for rate limits on public audio. Server logs may include errors and payment or webhook events. We do not run advertising pixels or a third-party analytics SDK on the marketing site.

How we use it

To create and refresh your account, generate and schedule briefings, stream or cache spoken audio, email editions to the address on your account, measure remaining generation minutes, and apply paid plans or top-ups.

To search recent news (including queries derived from your topics and interests), open source pages, draft the briefing with a language model, and synthesize speech. Listening after a briefing exists does not consume extra generation minutes.

To prevent abuse, debug failures, and comply with law. We do not use your briefings to advertise to other people.

Processors

We use companies that process data for us: Clerk (sign-in), Google (if you choose Google), MongoDB (database), Razorpay (payments), Resend and/or Brevo (transactional email), Murf (text-to-speech), OpenRouter and the model provider behind it (drafting), Tavily (news search and page extract), Inngest (background jobs), and our host (typically Vercel). Marketing images may be served from Cloudinary. Fallback avatars may be requested from DiceBear.

Those providers have their own terms. We send them only what that job needs — for example, your topics go to search, article text goes to drafting, and the spoken script goes to text-to-speech.

Public listen links

A listen URL for a ready briefing can be opened without an account. Anyone with the link can play the audio and read the sourced stories on that page. Do not share a link if you do not want others to hear that edition. The owner dashboard and full library stay behind sign-in.

Cookies and similar storage

We use cookies and similar storage that are required to sign you in (Clerk) and to keep your RecentBrief session. That is not advertising tracking. You can block cookies in your browser; the product will not work signed in without them.

Retention

We keep account, preference, briefing, and payment records while the account is open and for a reasonable period afterward so we can handle disputes, tax, and abuse. Top-up lots expire after 90 days. Cached audio is stored to avoid regenerating speech; it is not a public file host.

Email and payment providers keep their own logs under their policies. Server logs are rotated as part of ordinary operations.

Your choices

You can change preferences in settings, pause scheduled editions, and stop using the service. To correct account details or ask us to delete your account and associated briefings, email hello@recentbrief.com from the same address we have on file. We may retain limited payment records where the law requires it.

Where India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act or other law gives you rights we cannot contract away, those rights still apply. We will need to verify that the request comes from you.

Children

RecentBrief is aimed at adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account and to pay. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where the law requires a different notice.
